Why Is the Reception the Easiest Outfit to Enjoy?
Because it is the one function free of religious constraint. Nothing about the reception dictates a traditional form, which means the decision is entirely about the room, the light and what you actually want to wear. It is also usually the largest gathering of the wedding and the most photographed, so it rewards the sharpest tailoring of the sequence.
| Option | Reads as | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Velvet or wool tuxedo | Modern, formal, Western | Hotel ballroom, evening, black-tie leaning |
| Embellished sherwani | Ceremonial, traditional | Family expects an Indian register |
| Jodhpuri bandhgala | The middle ground | You want formality without full ceremony |
| Indo-Western jacket | Contemporary, fashion-led | Younger crowd, design-conscious room |
Tuxedo or Sherwani?
The honest deciding factor is what you wore to the ceremony. If the Muhurtham or wedding was a traditional silk or sherwani, the reception is your opportunity for a tuxedo and the album benefits from the contrast. If the ceremony was Western-formal, an embellished sherwani or bandhgala gives you the traditional image the wedding otherwise lacks. Two versions of the same silhouette is the one outcome to avoid.
Which Colour?
Choose something clearly distinct from the ceremony outfit so the two events are immediately distinguishable in photographs. Midnight blue, emerald and deep burgundy all photograph better than pure black under warm reception lighting, which tends to flatten black into a shape without detail. If you want black, get the texture in: velvet, jacquard or surface work gives the camera something to hold. For pairing with the bride's outfit, see our groom colour combination guide.

Our published starting prices and typical ranges, plus the usual atelier lead time before the fitting. Every commission is quoted individually at the consultation, because cloth, construction and the hours of hand embroidery move the figure more than anything else. Unstitched silks such as a veshti, panche or mundu are not included.
If the date is close, our Express service offers same-day, next-day or 2-day delivery, subject to fabric availability and design.
Commission the Outfit
Every garment is drafted from roughly 20 to 25 of your own measurements and cut from our own fabric library. One fitting is standard before the garment is finished, and alterations are covered for one month after delivery or until the garment has been worn, whichever comes first. Read how we work, plan every function with the wardrobe planner, or book a consultation in Basavanagudi.
