The Atelier

Modern Silhouettes,
Classic Roots

Fusion wear is a construction problem before it is a styling one. It asks for Western pattern-making, a canvassed chest, a real shoulder line, a sleeve set to your arm, married to Indian drape and proportion. Most off-the-rack fusion fails because it borrows the look without the structure, which is why it hangs on the body rather than sitting on it.

The range runs wider than most people expect: asymmetric-hem jackets, draped kurta-and-jacket layering, capes, and bandhgala-adjacent silhouettes worn with contemporary trousers. What holds a good fusion piece together is that the Indian element is designed in from the pattern stage rather than applied on top, so the result reads as one intention instead of a costume.

We generally place Indo-Western at the sangeet, engagement or reception rather than the main ceremony, where most Karnataka and Tamil Nadu families still expect fully traditional dress. That is less a rule than what tends to sit right with the room, and we design around your family's expectations wherever they differ.

The Art of Cloth: Fabric Glossary

A bespoke garment is only as exceptional as the cloth it is cut from, and the right choice changes by occasion, not just by taste. Here is a brief guide to the luxury weaves and finishes we offer, and which ceremony each one suits best.

Pure Silk & Brocade

The gold standard for wedding sherwanis. Known for its natural sheen and structured drape, silk brocade is often interwoven with gold or silver zarian threads for a royal aesthetic.

Best for: Muhurtham, Sherwani ceremonies

Super 120s to 150s Wool

Premium Italian wool ideal for bespoke suits and tuxedos. The "Super" number indicates the fineness of the yarn. Higher numbers mean a softer, more luxurious drape perfect for evening wear.

Best for: Reception, Sangeet suits

Raw Silk & Matka

Characterized by its textured, slightly nubby surface, raw silk offers a rich, matte finish. It is highly preferred for Indo-Westerns and Jodhpuris for a sophisticated, non-shiny look.

Best for: Baraat, Sangeet, Indo-Western looks

Velvet

A plush, heavy fabric that catches light beautifully. Used predominantly for regal reception tuxedos, statement blazers, or intricate hand-embroidered collars and cuffs.

Best for: Reception, evening functions

Cotton & Linen

Breathable and lightweight, these fabrics are built for daytime heat and long hours of movement rather than sheen or weight. Unlike silk or velvet, they stay comfortable through a full ceremony in direct sun.

Best for: Haldi, Mehendi kurtas

The Process

How Your Custom Outfit Comes to Life

01

Consultation

A direct sitting with founder Chirag Parmar on which function the piece is for, since fusion wear reads best at sangeet or reception.

02

Design & Fabric

Asymmetric-hem jackets, draped kurta-and-jacket layering, capes or bandhgala-adjacent silhouettes, with the Indian element designed in from the pattern stage.

03

Precise Measurements

A canvassed chest, a real shoulder line and a sleeve set to your arm, the Western construction fusion wear usually skips.

04

Fitting & Delivery

Fittings to confirm the drape sits on the body rather than hanging off it, before final delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

An Indo-Western outfit blends Indian traditional elements with Western tailoring, and it is a construction problem before it is a styling one. It asks for Western pattern-making, a canvassed chest, a real shoulder line and a sleeve set to your arm, married to Indian drape and proportion. Common styles include asymmetric-hem jackets, draped kurta-and-jacket layering, capes and bandhgala-adjacent silhouettes worn with contemporary trousers. Most off-the-rack fusion wear fails because it borrows the look without the structure, which is why it hangs on the body rather than sitting on it, and it is also why we treat Indo-Western pieces with the same canvassed construction as a full suit rather than as a lighter garment.

Yes, Indo-Western garments are a strong choice for sangeet and reception functions because they allow for modern flair while still retaining a festive, occasion-appropriate look. We generally place Indo-Western pieces at the sangeet, engagement or reception rather than the main wedding ceremony, where most Karnataka and Tamil Nadu families still expect fully traditional dress, though that is less a fixed rule than what tends to sit right with the room. The range runs wider than most people expect, from a single draped jacket to a full layered set, which gives room to match the formality of the specific function rather than defaulting to one look across the whole wedding.

Absolutely. We tailor bespoke Jodhpuri and bandhgala suits that offer a royal, structured silhouette suited to evening wedding functions. The Bandhgala has no lapel or open collar to soften the neckline, so the mandarin collar has to sit against the neck without gaping and the closure has to run dead straight from throat to hem, which is why we draft it from your own measurements rather than a standard block. We generally pair it with slim tailored trousers rather than historically flared jodhpurs, keeping the proportion contemporary while the jacket itself stays traditional, and it works equally well at an engagement, a sangeet or a reception.

Yes, our bespoke service allows you to customize the placement, density and style of hand embroidery on any fusion jacket or kurta, worked in-house by the studio's own artisans rather than sent to an outside workshop. Because the Indian element in a good Indo-Western piece is designed in from the pattern stage rather than applied on top afterward, embroidery placement is usually discussed alongside the cut itself at the consultation rather than added as a separate decision later. Restraint tends to serve asymmetric-hem jackets and draped layering better than dense all-over work, since the structure of the piece is already doing most of the visual work.
