The Atelier
A business suit has a harder job than a wedding suit: it has to survive being worn fifty times a year, sat in through meetings, and packed into a cabin bag, and still hold its line. At Chirag Parmar Signatures in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, we build office and formal suits with the same canvassed construction we use for wedding tailoring, because that construction is precisely what determines whether a suit still looks right in year three.
For daily formal wear, a mid-grey or navy two-piece in a 260-280gsm Italian wool is the most useful suit a man can own, working from a client meeting to a dinner without changing. Half-canvas construction is the sensible default for a working suit, giving you a chest that moves with you at a lower cost than full canvas, while fused construction, the standard in mass-produced suiting, is what causes the bubbling you see across the chest of older off-the-rack jackets. A notch lapel and two-button front keep it versatile; save peak lapels and double-breasted cuts for the occasions that call for them.
The Process
A direct consultation with founder Chirag Parmar on occasion, silhouette and fabric, with no sales floor handoff.
Choose from pure silk brocade, Super 120s to 150s wool, raw silk, velvet or linen, matched to your occasion.
A pattern drafted from roughly 20 to 25 measurements, including posture points a size chart never captures.
Fittings refine the fit, and embroidery is worked in-house. Most garments are ready in two to eight weeks.
