The Atelier

Bespoke Kurtas for
Every Occasion

A kurta is the least forgiving simple garment in menswear. There is no lapel, no structure and no embellishment to distract the eye, so fit is the entire design: shoulder seam on the bone, sleeve finishing at the wrist, and a length that balances your height rather than a standard drop applied to everyone.

Fabric decides the occasion. Breathable cotton and linen for Haldi, Mehendi and long daytime functions; raw silk and tussar for evenings where a little sheen earns its place. We steer clients away from heavy brocade for daytime ceremonies, because a kurta that photographs beautifully on a hanger can be genuinely unwearable after three hours in the sun.

Embroidery works best here in restraint: tonal thread work, fine Aari on the collar and placket, geometry rather than volume. When the kurta is layered under a Nehru jacket we keep the detailing on one of the two and never both, so the outfit reads as a single considered look instead of two competing ones.

The Art of Cloth: Fabric Glossary

A bespoke garment is only as exceptional as the cloth it is cut from, and the right choice changes by occasion, not just by taste. Here is a brief guide to the luxury weaves and finishes we offer, and which ceremony each one suits best.

Pure Silk & Brocade

The gold standard for wedding sherwanis. Known for its natural sheen and structured drape, silk brocade is often interwoven with gold or silver zarian threads for a royal aesthetic.

Best for: Muhurtham, Sherwani ceremonies

Super 120s to 150s Wool

Premium Italian wool ideal for bespoke suits and tuxedos. The "Super" number indicates the fineness of the yarn. Higher numbers mean a softer, more luxurious drape perfect for evening wear.

Best for: Reception, Sangeet suits

Raw Silk & Matka

Characterized by its textured, slightly nubby surface, raw silk offers a rich, matte finish. It is highly preferred for Indo-Westerns and Jodhpuris for a sophisticated, non-shiny look.

Best for: Baraat, Sangeet, Indo-Western looks

Velvet

A plush, heavy fabric that catches light beautifully. Used predominantly for regal reception tuxedos, statement blazers, or intricate hand-embroidered collars and cuffs.

Best for: Reception, evening functions

Cotton & Linen

Breathable and lightweight, these fabrics are built for daytime heat and long hours of movement rather than sheen or weight. Unlike silk or velvet, they stay comfortable through a full ceremony in direct sun.

Best for: Haldi, Mehendi kurtas

The Process

How Your Custom Kurta Comes to Life

01

Consultation

A direct sitting with founder Chirag Parmar on occasion and fabric, since a kurta has no lapel or structure to hide a fit error.

02

Fabric Selection

Breathable cotton or linen for daytime functions, raw silk or tussar for evenings where a little sheen earns its place.

03

Precise Measurements

The shoulder seam set on the bone, the sleeve finished at the wrist, the length balanced to your own height.

04

Embroidery & Fitting

Tonal thread work and fine Aari on the collar and placket, worked in-house and refined across fittings.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can buy premium designer kurtas for men at Chirag Parmar Signatures, located in Basavanagudi, Bangalore. A kurta is the least forgiving simple garment in menswear, since there is no lapel, no structure and no embellishment to distract the eye, so fit is the entire design. Founder Chirag Parmar drafts every kurta from your own measurements, setting the shoulder seam on the bone, finishing the sleeve at the wrist, and balancing the length to your own height rather than applying a standard drop to everyone. That attention to plain construction is what separates a designer kurta from an off-the-rack one, where the fit is often the first thing to compromise.

Yes, we specialize in custom kurtas. Every piece is made-to-measure based on your exact measurements, style preferences and fabric choice, drafted at the Basavanagudi studio rather than adjusted from a standard block. Fabric decides the occasion: we generally steer clients toward breathable cotton and linen for Haldi, Mehendi and long daytime functions, and raw silk or tussar for evenings where a little sheen earns its place. Embroidery, where the design calls for it, is worked in-house by the studio's own artisans in restraint, tonal thread work and fine Aari on the collar and placket rather than heavy volume, which keeps the kurta wearable rather than just photogenic.

A standard custom kurta typically requires one to two weeks, including a fitting to confirm the shoulder, sleeve length and overall drape before final stitching. Intricately hand-embroidered or wedding kurtas run longer, usually three to four weeks, since tonal thread work and fine Aari on the collar and placket are worked by hand rather than machine-stamped. If the kurta is being layered under a Nehru jacket, we generally keep detailing to one of the two pieces rather than both, which also keeps the timeline shorter than a fully worked standalone kurta. We recommend starting the consultation with a little extra runway during the busier wedding season.

Yes, we design exclusive wedding kurtas for grooms, suited to haldi, mehendi and sangeet ceremonies where a kurta typically reads better than a heavier sherwani or jacket. For daytime functions like haldi and mehendi we lean toward breathable cotton or linen in festive colour, since the kurta needs to hold up through several hours outdoors, while sangeet kurtas can move toward raw silk or tussar with a little more embroidery for evening light. Pairing is part of the design too, whether the kurta sits under a Nehru jacket, with a bandi, or on its own with churidar or trousers, and we work that out at the consultation alongside the fabric.

The two things that separate a kurta designer from a tailoring shop are pattern drafting and embroidery. A designer kurta should be cut from your own measurements rather than a standard size, and the embroidery should be worked in-house so the motif can be designed around your fabric rather than picked from a catalogue. Ask to see completed pieces and ask whether a fitting is included before delivery. Chirag Parmar Signatures in Basavanagudi drafts every kurta to measure and works embroidery in-house, with 1-2 weeks for a plain kurta and 3-4 weeks for a hand-embroidered wedding piece.
