The Atelier
Linen is the right answer for most of the South Indian calendar and the wrong answer for a boardroom, and knowing which is which is most of the skill in commissioning one. At Chirag Parmar Signatures in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, we cut linen shirts for the events they are actually worn to: daytime wedding functions, destination and beach weddings in Goa and Kerala, travel, and the stretch of the year when Chennai and Coimbatore make cotton feel heavy.
Pure linen breathes best and creases most; a linen-cotton blend gives you most of the airflow with noticeably better crease recovery, which is what you want for a shirt worn through a full day of events. Cut matters more than in cotton: linen has no stretch, so a bespoke pattern with slightly more room through the chest and armhole is what keeps it comfortable without looking oversized. A camp collar and a straight hem read correctly untucked for resort wear, while a semi-spread collar and a curved tail keep a linen shirt formal enough to tuck.
The Process
A direct consultation with founder Chirag Parmar on occasion, silhouette and fabric, with no sales floor handoff.
Choose from pure silk brocade, Super 120s to 150s wool, raw silk, velvet or linen, matched to your occasion.
A pattern drafted from roughly 20 to 25 measurements, including posture points a size chart never captures.
Fittings refine the fit, and embroidery is worked in-house. Most garments are ready in two to eight weeks.
