The Commission

A bespoke sherwani for the groom’s wedding ceremony, in cream with gold embroidery worked across the whole garment: a dense yoke and collar, vertical panels down the front and embroidered cuffs. It was styled with a layered gold mala, a cream safa set with a jewelled brooch and a feather kalgi, a draped stole with a gold border and a ceremonial sword. The finished look was first published on the brand’s Instagram in March 2025.

Design & Construction

A long, embroidered garment shows every fit error from shoulder to hem, so a sherwani like this starts with a pattern drafted from the groom’s own measurements, roughly 20 to 25 points including posture. Hand embroidery is worked in-house by the atelier’s own artisans, with the motif drawn to the client’s cloth and proportions rather than picked from a catalogue. Densely worked sherwanis take 150 to 400 or more artisan hours, which is why they run one to six weeks and why the atelier recommends starting early.

Styling Notes

Cream and gold keeps the groom visually distinct from a red bridal lehenga while picking up the gold in her embroidery and jewellery. The layered mala and the brooched safa add height and a ceremonial focal point above the collar, so the embroidery on the body of the sherwani does not have to carry the whole look on its own.

Commissioning a Similar Piece

Bring a photograph of the bride’s outfit and jewellery to the first consultation, since the cream and gold balance is set against hers. Decide early how much of the body is embroidered: yoke, front panels and cuffs, as here, is dense work and sets the timeline more than the tailoring does. Store an embroidered sherwani on a broad, padded hanger inside a breathable cotton cover, away from damp, because metal-thread embroidery can tarnish in humidity. Have it cleaned by a specialist who handles zari work, never iron directly over the embroidery, and air it out every few months if it is kept for years.
